First Snowfall on Mt. Yōtei and Niseko-Annupuri for 2017/18
Barely 10 days had passed since the start of autumn before Niseko had its first taste of snow for 2017/18!
The first discernible snow was spotted on Mt. Yōtei in the final days of September, where a slight but noticeable dusting of white could be seen against the vivid greens and oranges covering the stratovolcano.
Despite some pleasantly warm and bright autumn days, evening temperatures continued to plummet, eventually resulting in the year’s first visible snowfall covering the upper portions of the Niseko-Annupuri mountain range with a blanket of white on October 5th — having completely transformed the top of Mt. Yōtei into a chilly winterscape the day before.
Snow dusted much of upper Grand Hirafu, highlighting the ski lift stations scattered around the mountain.
In Niseko, the year’s first snowfall typically falls in early-to-mid October, with more significant, heavier downfalls occurring at lower altitudes through mid-to-late November.
This year’s first snowfall occurred slightly earlier than usual, adding to our excitement for the winter season ahead of us... It won't be long now until Niseko is covered by its own blanket of white snow.
